WHO: Every student in U.S. History or Current World Problems.
WHAT: An oral and written report on a current news event. U.S. History students must choose articles about the U.S. and Current World Problems students must choose articles about the world or the topic we are studying.
WHEN: A written and oral report is due each week on an assigned day.
WHERE: The classroom.
WHY: The purpose of this assignment is:
1. to develop public speaking skills.

events in the U.S. and the world.

with the present.
1. Choose an appropriate article from the newspaper, news magazine, or Internet.
2. Cut the article out and read the article.
3. On a separate piece of paper take notes using the
following format:
· WHO: Answer the question "Who is the article about?"
· WHAT: Answer the question "What is the main idea of the article?"
· WHEN: Answer the question "When did the What happen?"
· WHERE: Answer the question "Where did the What happen?"
4. Using the notes generated from
#3, write a summary of the article using your own words and thoughts.
5. Ask a question that the article
created in your mind.
6. Staple the article to the note
and summary paper.
7. Turn in your report after you
have given the oral presentation.
1. Articles must be at least seven (7) paragraphs long.
2. Extra credit is given for reports
about politics or for reports that are long and more sophisticated.
3. Articles about car crashes, murders,
gore, or unsophisticated articles could receive lower grades.
4. This is a homework assignment.
All requirements must be completed before you come to class. You will be marked
down and/or the article will be considered late if all requirements are not
done before coming to class.
1. On Time: 10 pts.
2. Notes: 10 pts.
3. Question: 10 pts.
4. Summary: 20 pts.
5. Oral Presentation: 50 pts.
