Late Starts on Mondays

Every Monday will be Late Start Monday. School will start at 9:10 instead of 8:10.. Buses will run one hour later. There will, however, be supervision for children as early as 7:45; the same as a regular day. Children arriving at this earlier time will have learning and enrichment activities offered. The purpose for a delayed starting time is to allow teachers to meet and work on stategies for more effective teaching.

Walk to Read/At Home Reading

In order to meet the strengths and needs of students, we have started a Walk to Read component in our reading program. Students have been placed in a reading class based on last year's teacher recommendation and test scores. Each day students will walk to their reading teacher for instruction. At the end of the period they will walk back to their regular clasroom. Teachers will plan and continue to monitor student progress so your child's placement is appropriate.

Classroom teachers will soon be starting an At Home Reading Program. Research has found that students who read daily at home have a much greater chance of succeeding as readers. Please plan a time in your schedule to read to or listen to your child read at home. Fifteen to twenty minutes is appropriate for this age level.
