Welcome to sixth grade!

 

I teach all sixth grade reading classes, including LAP reading.  This is my fourth year teaching sixth grade at OMS.

 

Reading is my favorite subject, and even as a middle schooler, I always had my nose in a book.  Reading well takes practice. Practice by reading the newspaper aloud to your parents, reading to your little brother or sister their favorite book before bed, or by silently reading at least twenty minutes each day.

 

We will read short stories, poetry, plays, nonfiction, and novels, while working on important reading skills such as identifying main idea, predicting, inferring, and story elements.  As my student, you will also have the responsibility of completing four book report projects during the school year.  In addition, I will read aloud from some of my favorite young adult books.
